Attend Training to Serve the Poor through Legal Assistance

About this Opportunity

Our mission at Open Hands Legal Services is to uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed in New York City. We bring free legal services directly to community members at host non-profit organizations throughout the city.

Join us for a New Volunteer Training, a prerequisite for Open Hands Legal Services' new legal aid desk volunteers. All volunteers must attend a New Volunteer Training before they can serve.

Bilingual volunteers who can speak Spanish and English are especially needed!

Read about our volunteer roles and RSVP for the training below.

Volunteer roles:

  • Volunteer attorneys
  • Law students
  • Paralegals
  • Translators
  • Non-attorneys

All roles are needed to staff and assist at our Legal Aid Desks with client intake, note taking and research, client support, clerical, and translation.

Currently, Legal Aid Desks are held on two Saturdays each month. We anticipate adding more Legal Aid Desks back soon.

After you RSVP, please complete your registration using the Eventbrite link in your confirmation email.
