Virtually Tutor Kids through Mont Lawn City Camp

About this Opportunity

Mont Lawn City Camp is The Bowery Mission's program for children and youth living under the poverty line in New York City. Opportunities for enrichment and mentoring can play a critical role in helping children thrive in school and life. Quality programs support children's social and emotional development, helping them grow into adults who are healthy, grounded, and economically self-sufficient.

Apply to become a virtual tutor for students in our Mont Lawn City Camp! Our students are mostly elementary school aged between 5-14 who need help in a variety of subject/content areas.

  • 1 hour once a week, for three months from the end of September through January.

You'll be a great fit for this role if you:

  • Have lots of energy and an upbeat personality
  • Are an active and patient listener who can give support and encouragement
  • Desire to model healthy, trusting relationships
  • Have experience giving clear communication and setting appropriate boundaries.

  • Tutors should be at least 17 years old.
  • If you speak Spanish, that is a plus (but it is not required) as this is many of our children and families first language.

Application process:

  • Click "request information" below.
  • You will then be contacted to schedule a video interview with our program director.
  • After that, we will conduct a background check and then you will be notified if you have been accepted as a tutor.

PLEASE NOTE: All tutoring sessions will be recorded for the safety of both the student and the tutor. Each tutor will be given information specific to their student before they interact online. Our staff will provide oversight for the first lesson in order to get the student and tutor acquainted.
