Citymeals on Wheels provides a continuous lifeline of nutritious food and human company to homebound elderly New Yorkers in need, helping them to live with dignity in their own familiar homes and communities.
Life in New York City can be especially isolating for our older neighbors who live alone. Most Citymeals recipients have outlived friends and family and many have nobody to talk with other than their meal deliverer. Isolation like this can have negative effects on both physical and mental health.
Through the Social Calls program, volunteers can help address isolation by making friendly phone calls to Citymeals recipients. Even a quick chat can alleviate feelings of loneliness, reminding them they aren't forgotten.
This is a fully remote volunteer program and calls can be made from anywhere. Volunteers must be 18 or older.
