Morris Academy Mentors

Mentor High School Students in Academic Program

About this Opportunity

About:

Morris Academy Mentors is a program dedicated to helping Morris Academy students and recent graduates develop the skills and community needed to navigate the challenges of life. The program provides both practical guidance for success in college, career and beyond, as well as builds strong, long-term relationships with mentors and each other. We also have tons of fun while doing it!

Who are the mentees?

Current Morris Academy students and recent graduates meaningfully chosen by their teachers and administrators to most benefit from a mentoring program.

Who are the mentors?

The program is fully run by volunteers who work with the teachers and administration from the school to meet the needs of the students in the best possible way, encouraging the youth to be independent, creative and motivated to achieve. Successful mentors are passionate about sharing their time and resources with youth and are focused on integrity for both themselves and the people with whom they work. They are active listeners who graciously respond with generosity, care and love to people in all communities.

What do we do?

We meet about twice a month either at Morris Academy High School or in fun places around the city on Saturdays from 9:30-11:30am. Mentors lead sessions based on topics mentees are interested in along with hosting adventure opportunities in places students may have never been such as: The Metropolitan Museum, Central Park, DJ Scratch School, Hoodwinked, NBC Studios, Bowling, Museum of Moving Images and many more!

*The program runs on a school year schedule, and requires a 1 year commitment for all volunteer mentors.

*Volunteers must complete an online application before becoming a mentor. You will receive the link to complete the application when you click "request information." Because there is a process involved, it may take a few weeks for you to begin volunteering.

The application process for this opportunity has now been closed. If you are interested in learning more about getting involved for the next academic year, please click "Request Information."
