NCS was founded on the premise that homelessness is the responsibility of the entire community. More than 35 years later, we are still guided by the principle that neighbors should help neighbors. This is why volunteerism has always been important to the work we do.
We love when volunteers come to NCS to spend time with our residents, help us in the office, or share their unique skills.
A few examples of ways you, your family, your company etc can help NCS:
-
Prepare, serve and enjoy dinner with our residents
-
Lead a recreational activity like yoga, karaoke, drumming, an arts & crafts class, or a discussion of current events
-
Share a talent with our residents such as singing, playing an instrument, dancing, or performing stand up comedy
-
Help behind the scenes with videography, event logistics and clerical tasks
-
Pick up in-kind donations (often food or clothing) and drop them off at our program sites (this can be done in a safe and socially distant manner and is very much needed during the current pandemic)!
-
Run a workshop on your area of expertise whether financial literacy or mock interviews
-
Have a skill you want to share or an idea for a different type of volunteer activity? We are always open to trying new things!
