Teach Basic Math Classes in East Harlem (Spanish speaking)

About this Opportunity

The Open Door empowers immigrants to reach their full God-given potential to successfully integrate, participate and contribute to the well being of our society.


Make a difference in the lives of adult immigrants by teaching in-person Basic math classes (GED prep) to immigrant neighbors once a week for 6 weeks starting on April 13, 2023.


Volunteers serve in East Harlem (2050 2nd Ave) on Monday or Thursday evenings from 7 to 8:30 pm.


This volunteer opportunity is a short pilot program designed to help The Open Door prepare and develop best practices for our new GED curriculum before we open the class to a wider audience in the fall. Volunteers will be provided a book from which to teach.


Qualifications & Process:

  • Ability to teach basic/GED math in Spanish (native fluency not required)
  • Can serve once a week for 6 weeks starting April 13.
  • As a faith-based organization, The Open Door NJNY looks for individuals whose values are aligned with our mission to share God's love with the immigrant community.
  • Volunteers must be 18 and over and complete an application form, interview, and training.
