Our annual HISToy Store Event is scheduled for Friday, December 19, from 5:30-8:30 pm.. Do you have experience as a balloon artist, face painter or similar entertainment? Use your skills to provide entertainment and bring joy to students and families during the holiday season.
The volunteer will serve on Friday, December 19th, from 5:30-8:30 PM. Location will be in Washington Heights - ALIANZA DOMINICANA CULTURAL CENTER (530 West 166th Street)
Process:
You have signed up for Hope for New York’s His Toy Store program. Here are some guidelines as you prepare to serve this holiday season:
- Be engaged! - Create genuine relationships with the people you serve. Ask what their needs are, and then actively listen.
- Have a posture of humility and respect - toward both affiliate staff and the communities they serve. Remember, affiliates do this work every day, so they know what will serve our neighbors best, and their communities also know their experiences the most.
- Show up on time and lean in - The affiliate needs your help. Honor the affiliates by showing up on time, taking initiative to engage, and staying until you are dismissed by the affiliate staff or your volunteer leader.
- Remember Christ’s love for us - Volunteering isn't always easy; there may be difficult or boring moments. Remember that you have chosen to give your time in response to Christ’s love for you, not for a specific response from others.
- Be flexible and gracious - Sometimes, things don’t go the way you thought...or even told they would. Keep in mind that you’re volunteering to serve the needs of others—so anticipate curve balls, and be open-minded to changes and feedback!
