Serve Immigrant Families by Tutoring Children Virtually

About this Opportunity

Invest in the lives of immigrant families by supporting children with homework and skills development.

Each tutor has the opportunity to invest in the life of a student, building confidence by helping them with homework, academic skills, and affirming their gifts. Tutors may meet virtually with students one or more times each week in the evenings, Monday - Thursday. The time commitment for this is an hour and fifteen minutes each session. We ask our virtual volunteers to not wear sleeveless shirts as a way to respect our students who adhere to Muslim norms of modesty.

The most effective tutors bring energy and flexibility to each tutoring opportunity and have a desire to expand their cultural competencies. Basic video conference skills, hardware with the ability to record via zoom, and willingness to upload tutoring sessions to DropBox are required.

There will be orientation and training for our volunteers to get to know our students and the online platforms that we use. Tutors report to Volunteer Coordinators who provide support during tutoring for teaching questions that arise.

All volunteers will be required to provide 2 references, have an interview, and attend an online orientation. All virtual tutoring will be held via Zoom -- tutors are required to have hardware that can manage screen sharing, recording session, and uploading recorded sessions to dropbox.

This is a valuable experience, and we'd love for you to be a part of it. Click "request information" to learn more!
