Prayers for Vulnerable Women

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:6

New York City is home to 4.4 million female residents (52 percent of the population). A woman gives birth in NYC every 4.4 minutes. In 2012, there were 73,815 abortions in NYC—with Black and Hispanic abortions comprising 73 percent of the total abortions.

Among all women in NYC, single mothers are the most economically insecure. Close to 300,000 households in the city headed by single mothers, and 40 percent of those households are impoverished, compared to 13 percent of two-parent households.

Additionally, women disproportionately face domestic violence, with between 7-32 percent of women in North America experiencing violence from an intimate partner during their lifetime.

Because we serve a God who is strong and promises to never leave or forsake us, we ask that you join us in lifting up in prayer women across our city who find themselves in vulnerable situations.

  • Pray that women facing unexpected pregnancies would find loving care. Pray that they would ultimately choose life for the child and be hopeful about their future after giving birth. Lord, as we lift up women facing unexpected pregnancies to You, we’re thankful for the truth that you knit every one of us together in the womb. Would we exhibit Your steadfast love to women in the midst of their fears, encouraging them to make loving decisions for their child.

  • Pray that women facing domestic abuse would be brave and know their true value. Pray that they would confide in someone they trust about the dangers they are facing at home. God, we pray for women in our city who are in the midst of violent situations. We ask that You would make a way for any woman in an abusive situation to get out and discover the love and support and care needed to realize her worth and to experience flourishing and fullness of life.

  • Pray for organizations like Avail and The Bowery Mission Women’s Center as they seek to provide safe places for women to find emotional, physical, and spiritual healing. Jesus, we thank you for organizations in our city that seek to come alongside vulnerable women in our community. We lift them up and pray that You would provide mightily for them so they may continue their important work. We ask You to guide women in need to their services.
